Family Citizenship — How Vanuatu’s CBI Program Accommodates Spouses, Children, and Dependents

For many of our clients, citizenship is not an individual decision — it’s a family decision. Vanuatu’s citizenship by investment program recognizes this reality and provides comprehensive options for including family members in a single application.

Who Can Be Included?

Vanuatu’s DSP program allows the following family members to be included in a single application:

Spouse: Your legally married spouse is eligible for inclusion. The additional government contribution for a spouse brings the couple’s total to $150,000.

Dependent children: Children under 18 can be included at an additional contribution of $15,000 per child. Children aged 18-25 who are full-time students and financially dependent on the principal applicant may also be eligible.

Parents and grandparents: In some cases, parents or grandparents who are financially dependent on the principal applicant can be included. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis and may require additional documentation.

The Family Application Process

When a family applies together, a single application is submitted with the principal applicant as the primary. All family members undergo the same three-tier due diligence process — including background checks through the FIU, Immigration Services, and INTERPOL. Each family member receives their own individual Vanuatu passport upon approval.

The processing timeline for family applications is typically the same as for individual applications — 30 to 45 days. The comprehensive due diligence on all family members runs in parallel rather than sequentially, so adding family members does not significantly extend the timeline.

Cost Comparison for Families

For a family of four (two adults, two children under 18), the total government contribution under Vanuatu’s DSP is approximately $180,000. This compares favorably to Caribbean programs, where a family of four now typically costs $250,000 to $300,000 following the coordinated price increases.

The savings of $70,000 to $120,000 for a family application makes Vanuatu particularly attractive for family-focused investors.

“Family applications are our specialty. We understand that when a parent is making this investment, they’re thinking about their children’s future — educational opportunities, travel freedom, and the security of having options. Our team is experienced in handling complex family applications including blended families, multi-generational applications, and cases involving dependents with special circumstances. Every family is unique, and we structure each application to reflect that.”
